StarGen is using Rambus's RaSer PHY IP in the development of its StarXpress product line, based on the forthcoming Advanced Switching (AS) standard. The StarXpress family of switches will provide high-bandwidth serial switched solutions for next-generation storage, server, communication and embedded system designs. "Our family of scalable Advanced Switching products will provide flexible port count and width configurations based on 2.5Gbit/s PCI Express lanes.
The small area, low power RaSer PHY solution is ideal for these types of applications", said Tracy Richardson, president and cofounder of StarGen.
"We were impressed with the depth of Rambus's expertise and demonstrations of its PCI Express PHY cell silicon driving the same backplane and connector environments used in next generation AdvancedTCA-based platforms".
The Rambus PCI Express PHY design has been proven in PCI Express-based systems, which were recently demonstrated at the Intel Developer Forum in September 2003.
Additionally, Rambus provides engineering services to its customers for chip integration, package, board and system characterisation, as well as test, in order to ensure success in the development and bring up of PCI Express-based chips and boards.
"StarGen is helping to lead the architectural development of the next generation industry-wide standard interconnect - Advanced Switching", said Kevin Donnelly, Vice President of the Logic Interface Division at Rambus.
"Our engineering teams are supporting their teams in solving interconnect bottlenecks across the storage, server, communications and embedded marketplaces by providing high-value solutions compatible with industry standards".
