TV analyser covers analogue and digital standards
Universal multistandard platform for analysing TV signals combines the functionality of a TV test receiver and spectrum analyser in a single instrument.
Available now from Rohde and Schwarz is an all-new universal multistandard platform for analysing TV signals.
The R and S ETL combines the functionality of a TV test receiver and spectrum analyser in a single instrument while maintaining high measurement accuracy.
An innovative instrument concept allows new TV standards to be implemented on a software and hardware basis.
Thus, digital TV standards such as DVB-T/H as well as analogue TV standards can be integrated in only one instrument.
Rohde and Schwarz will continue using real-time demodulation with the R and S ETL.
The TV analyser platform is especially suitable for commissioning, installing, and servicing TV transmitters as well as coverage measurements for terrestrial TV and measurements on CATV head stations.
With only a single unit, broadcast transmitters or CATV systems can be easily and accurately installed and cost-effectively maintained.
The platform's compact and robust design makes it ideal for mobile applications, greatly simplifying the measurement of network coverage.
Both the software- and hardware-based demodulators generally work in real time.
Thus, the R and S ETL is currently the only TV analyser in its class that consistently performs BER measurements in real-time and makes complete analyses.
Using real-time demodulators has the advantage that demodulated analogue video and audio signals as well as digital MPEG transport streams are available for further processing.
The frequency range of the analyser is from 500kHz to 3GHz.
Frequencies in the L and S band, which are becoming more and more important, are thus also covered in addition to the conventional broadcasting frequencies, considerably expanding the range of applications of the R and S ETL.
At the time of market launch, the R and S ETL TV analyser was already configured to analyse internationally common analogue TV standards as well as the digital standards DVB-T/H and DVB-C, and for the first time, also the Chinese DMB-T standard (GB20600-2006).
For measuring digital TV signals, the R and S ETL offers a wide range of applications.
For the first time, the constellation diagrams are displayed in extremely great detail and at very high speed.
As an alternative to the constellation diagram, the signal parameters can also be displayed together with the results of the signal analysis in concise tables.
In analogue measurements, the TV analyser provides as standard comprehensive functions for measuring analogue vision and sound carriers.
The standard video scope function provides further analyses within user-selectable video lines as well.
Functions such as C/N, CSO and CTB are specially implemented for the CATV measurement.
The R and S ETL can be optionally equipped with a preselection including an additional 75ohm input.
The wide-ranging of TV-specific measurements offered by the R and S ETL are complemented by measurements in the spectrum, which until now have only been possible on spectrum analysers.
Measurements such as shoulder distance in accordance with ETSI TR 101 290, channel und adjacent channel power can thus be performed using one and the same instrument.
Special functions such as frequency counter, noise und phase noise markers round out the measurement functions and make the R and S ETL TV analyser a jack-of-all-trades.
Without having to open the instrument, users can modularly upgrade the analyser at a later time to meet their specific requirements.
Additional analogue and digital interfaces, a GPIB interface, and a reference oscillator are available as options.
