Monitor expands digital TV coverage

Rohde and Schwarz has developed further IP and RF interfaces for its R and S DVM family, adding to its recent introduction of inputs for MPEG-2 transport streams.
RF modules now allow DVB-T, DVB-H, DVB-C and DVB-S signals to be demodulated and monitored.
Even DVB-S2, the new satellite transmission standard, is available.
The high-end R and S DVM400 can now be equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet interface.
Thus, DTV signals of different standards can be simultaneously analysed and monitored in a single box, saving time and money.
A new convenient web client interface makes remote control easier, facilitating the control of entire DTV networks.
The new RF interfaces are fully integrated with the R and S DVM user interface and the alarm system.
Users can specifically define limit values for various real-time measurements of RF parameters and IP transmission.
The alarm system, which has been implemented for MPEG-2 measurements, signals if the limit values are exceeded.
The alarm function includes SNMP traps for network integration, relay contacts and report entries.
A scan function is implemented for the RF interfaces, enabling a single module to monitor several channels.
The RF measurements cover RF level, MER, BER and more.
The media delivery index (MDI), the channel datarate and the IP packet jitter are measured in the IP range.
Moreover, as the measurement results are graphically displayed, a quick visual evaluation of the signal quality is possible.
Typical displays include the constellation diagram and the MDI characteristic.
All modules for IP and RF allow the MPEG-2 transport stream to be simultaneously output and monitored.
The flexible platform concept of the R and S DVM family can be customised to meet specific user requirements, making the series a powerful and versatile tool even in development.
The systems are an ideal choice for network operators (satellite, cable and terrestrial), operators of playout centres, systems integrators and monitoring authorities. And the high-end R and S DVM400 version is ideal for R and D applications.
The options for the new DVB-T/-H interfaces, IP analysis as well as DVB-C and DVBS/S2 interfaces will be available from Rohde and Schwarz at the end of 2006.
