FM transmitter family covers TV and radio
The R and S NR8200 family of VHF FM transmitters are based on a common platform for TV and sound broadcast transmitters, covering a power range from 2.5 to 30kW.
The R and S NR8200 family of VHF FM transmitters from Rohde and Schwarz are based on the company's common platform for TV and sound broadcast transmitters, covering a power range from 2.5 to 30kW.
The transmitters contain a digital exciter with integrated AES/EBU interface.
The air-cooled models of the transmitter family are available in a 19in rack and provide output power of up to 15kW.
Their compact design and easy operation ensure a favourable cost/benefit ratio.
The transmitter concept includes the R and S SU800 digital exciter, the R and S VU825 power amplifier, a transmitter rack with cooling system, a power combiner, a power distribution unit and the R and S NetCCU800 transmitter control unit.
All transmitter and amplifier parameters required for diagnostics can be retrieved locally or remotely by means of a standard (IP) protocol and standard software via the transmitter control unit (web browser, SNMP).
Conventional standby systems such as exciter standby, (n+1) standby, passive standby and active output stage standby can be configured.
For the exciter standby and the active output stage standby, no additional control units are necessary.
The digital exciter R and S SU800, which is built using synthesiser technology, generates a frequency-modulated RF signal between 87.5 and 108MHz.
Analogue RF signals as well as digital signals can be processed in line with the bit-serial AES/EBU protocol.
Left/right, MPX, RDS or SCA signals can be fed to the exciter as modulation signals.
The measurement values of the exciter, the status and the modulation values are evaluated and displayed.
An error table supplements the monitoring functions.
The R and S VU825 power amplifier uses state-of-the-art MOSFET technology and is thus highly efficient.
Each RF amplifier has its own power supply.
They amplify the signal to a power of approx.
2.7kW.
The R and S VU825 is modular in design and includes four identical 700W basic modules that are controlled by a 64W preamplifier.
An innovative amplifier controller monitors and evaluates protective functions, provides phase correction, and controls the RF output power, thus preventing the amplifier from being overdriven in the event a transistor fails.
Each amplifier module is, therefore, self-monitoring and self-protecting.
Up to six amplifier modules can be accommodated in a 19in rack.
Various air ducting configurations can be implemented, with cooling air intake from the top, bottom or rear of the transmitter rack, and exhaust air discharge toward the top or bottom.
The innovative power distribution unit within the rack is virtually wireless and simplifies assembly and service.
The R and S NR8200 family of VHF FM transmitters is now available from Rohde and Schwarz.
