Rohde and Schwarz can support the majority of validated 3G protocol test cases for HSDPA (high-speed downlink packet access) in accordance with the 3GPP TS 34.123 specification.

The company claims to be the only manufacturer to cover the FDD V (frequency division duplex) frequency band, offering six validated test cases.

Rohde and Schwarz also has more than nine validated test cases for the FDD II frequency band.

Mobile radio manufacturers are currently dedicating intensive effort to developing HSDPA-compatible terminals such as PCMCIA data cards and mobile phones.

With Work Item 14, the European Global Certification Forum (GCF) has defined a packet of 55 signalling test cases for certification.

At the end of July, the North American PTCRB (PCS Type Certification Review Board) officially recognised the validation results of Rohde and Schwarz for the FDD II and FDD V frequency bands approved in the USA.

By providing a total of 15 protocol test cases validated for HSDPA, Rohde and Schwarz is making a large contribution to the further development of the UMTS standard.

Thus, a major requirement for the on schedule market launch of the terminals has been met.

The new protocol test cases run on the R and S CRTU-W protocol tester which is already a success on the market.

The protocol tester, which covers all frequency bands defined in the 3GPP standards, merely requires the addition of the R and S CRTU WA02 and R and S CRTU-WC51 software options, available from Rohde and Schwarz.
