In all, the company has operations in 12 countries across Europe, Middle East and Africa providing sales, marketing and engineering support, and has associated manufacturing facilities in Alsdorf and Landshut in Germany.
Matthew Trowbridge, formerly Executive General Manager of Hitachi Europe's Electronic Components Group, has been appointed CEO of the new company, while Yutaka Funada, formerly COO of Mitsubishi Electric Europe's Semiconductor Business Unit, has been appointed Senior Executive Vice President.
"The consolidation of the semiconductor operations of two already influential companies will enable Renesas to capitalise on the expected growth in key new markets, especially the digital consumer market", said Matthew Trowbridge.
"The merger gives Renesas the scale needed to sustain its commitment to the IDM (integrated device manufacturer) model with control of its own technology development, design, manufacture and supply.
We believe this is necessary to keep a leading position in applications requiring complex system solutions".
"Renesas' European operation already plays a key role in its global activity for the smart card, automotive and mobile industries", he added.
"We expect this to strengthen further in the new company, especially in engineering where we have significantly expanded our capability".
