Racal Instruments has become the first test equipment manufacturer to have its test scripts for the new GSM adaptive multirate (AMR) conformance test system approved by the GCF (Global Certification Forum), the body established to ensure global interoperability of GSM terminals. AMR is an enhancement of GSM. It will improve network capacity and spectrum usage efficiency by increasing call carrying capacity.
The Wireless Solutions Group of Racal Instruments has been working closely with major AMR terminal manufacturers developing a tool which will verify that the protocols used to control the AMR system are correct.
The test cases were validated by Radio Frequency Investigation in the UK prior to being submitted to the GCF.
Racal's AMR test system comprises its standard GSM AIME (air interface monitor and emulator) complemented by the AMR AIME to verify and confirm the correct coding of frames and the correct implementation of control procedures.
