Industrial Ethernet connectors seal out dust

The proven Y-Con RJ45 family of industrial Cat5 Ethernet connectors from Acal Radiatron has recently been upgraded to offer the maximum IEC60529 rating of IP68.

The proven Y-Con RJ45 family of industrial Cat5 Ethernet connectors from Acal Radiatron has recently been upgraded to offer the maximum IEC60529 rating of IP68, providing protection from contact, dust penetration and water pressure. The modular family is manufactured by Yamaichi, and also includes IP20 rated models for more controlled environments. Both levels of protection are available in a range of sockets, couplers and mountings, supported by a range of flanges, covers, seals, transport caps and terminators.

To enable designers to match different performance needs, the Y-ConPlug is available in either a -20 to +80C rated polycarbonate body, or a -20 to +120C rated PBT version.

All plugs are UL94V0 rated, with a 1000-cycle mating life, and include cable guide, shielding and cable retention crimp.

Jack sockets are available for PCB mounting, or for hard-wiring, with a choice of 90-degree, 180-degree and coupler formats to suit a wide range of applications.

Of particular value in harsh environments, where it is important to reduce cabling, the system includes a unique option to include an additional pair of power contacts rated at 1.5A and 50V, enabling data and power to be connected in a single cable for factory automation applications in harsh environments.

The use of advanced PBT materials not only delivers high temperature ratings, and chemical-resistance, but also contributes to the 50g shock rating.

Seals are included during manufacture, and the family is supported by 100 Mbps CAT5 cable for data only, or data and power.

The ratchet crimp tool and adjustable-blade cable strippers are backed up by crimp procedure recommendations, and a range of complete field kits.
