RAD Data Communications has introduced the ASMi-31CQ quad IDSL modem card, which extends the local loop over twisted pair, two-wire unconditioned lines. The ASMi-31CQ can be housed within RAD's compact 12-slot LRS-24 access rack, enabling up to 48 modems in one rack and dramatically reducing port price. "By quadrupling the number of modems per slot, the ASMi-31CQ offers carriers a cost-effective, high density solution which substantially reduces the price per port vis-…-vis the single port ASMi-31C", states Avi Katz, RAD's Product Line Manager for Local Loop solutions.

"Moreover, the ability to mount up to 48 modems in one compact LRS-24 modem rack saves space and facilitates maintenance and operations", adds Katz.

The ASMi-31CQ includes four independent, high-speed, synchronous short-range modems, which operate full duplex over twisted pair, two-wire unconditioned lines.

The modems support selectable transmission rates of 64 and 128Kbit/s.

The unit operates opposite RAD's highly acclaimed standalone ASMi31 modems, tens of thousands of which have been installed worldwide.

The quad card is managed by either an ASCII terminal or RAD's SNMP management application.

Software upgrades can be downloaded to the ASMi-31CQ via the CM-2 module on the LRS-24, enabling remote maintenance without the need to remove and reinstall the modem card.
