Power-One reckons it is setting a new benchmark for AC/DC front-end power densities with the introduction of the FNP1500-48 and FNP1800-48. Delivering 48V at 37.5A (1800W), the FNP1800-48 provides a power density of 18.3W/in3. The FNP1500-48 provides 48V DC at 31A (1500W) from the same size package as the FNP1800-48, simplifying system migration to the 1800W product as power requirements increase.
These hot-swap products feature I2C monitoring and control, and support parallel/redundant operation in networking and storage applications.
Steve Goldman, Power-One's Chairman and CEO, commented: 'These new AC/DC front ends are excellent complements to our isolated DC/DC convertor bricks and award-winning Z-Series point-of-load products'.
'Commensurate with our board-level power solutions, the FNP1500 and FNP1800 provide industry-leading power densities'.
'Power-One is one of only a few companies that offer a complete range of solutions to address every step in the power conversion process, from the AC input to the IC on the board'.
Extensive systems-level interface capabilities are available.
Status information is conveyed with front panel LEDs, logic signals, and via an I2C management interface.
In addition, the I2C bus can enable the power supply, control the speed of the internal fans, adjust the output voltage, and set the output-current limit.
Startup and housekeeping functions are powered by an isolated 12V DC at 1A standby output.
An ultracompact 1U-high package, measuring 41 x 142 x 279mm, enables a three-slot shelf to provide up to 5400W.
Additional features include 85-264V AC universal input, +/-8% output adjustment range, remote sense and an internal ORing circuit.
Protections include overtemperature, output overvoltage and output overcurrent.
FNP models are designed to meet safety-agency requirements as per UL60950-1, CSA 60950-1-03, EN60950-1 and comply with the CE marking requirements of the Low Voltage Directive (LVD).
Unit pricing, for quantities of 250, is $524 for the FNP1500-48 and $581 for the FNP1800-48.
Evaluation units are available from stock.
Production quantities are typically available in six to eight weeks.
RoHS compliant models are scheduled for Q1 2006.
