Platform LSF Electronics Edition is the first end-to-end grid solution created specifically for the electronics sector.
Using the best-in-class Platform LSF Electronics Edition, enterprises in the competitive electronics marketplace are able to improve resource utilisation and system manageability enabling them to achieve faster, more accurate chip designs with higher quality of results (QoR).
This ultimately allows enterprises to bring products to market more quickly, reducing total cost of ownership.
Platform LSF Electronics Edition includes four key components: high performance capabilities; key application integrations with key application tools; premium support and maintenance with customised electronics consulting services; and an electronics-oriented best practices guide.
"Vertical markets are in need of solutions that not only optimise IT assets but also business objectives", said Nick Gall, Senior Vice President and Principal Analyst, META Group.
"Given that a key business objective behind the adoption of grid is usually time to market, it is essential that grid offerings pre-integrate the application licensing, delivery, reporting, and management into 'turnkey' business solutions".
Built on a foundation of 12 years of high performance grid computing experience with Industry leaders such as AMD, ARM, ATI, Cisco, Nvidia, Synopsis and Texas Instruments, Platform LSF Electronics Edition offers electronics enterprises the following four components: an advanced workload management engine that enables superior scheduling and ensures priority projects are completed on time, reliably with improved QoR, high capacity utilisation and superior system scalability; plug and play application integrations with industry leading tools enable rapid deployment and seamless operation in heterogeneous environments; sophisticated system manageability that speeds time to results by sharing virtualised resources beyond a single cluster to span geographical locations; and application licence optimisation to ensure high priority projects are always provisioned with critical licenses, minimising unnecessary delays and reducing license purchases.
With the electronics industry's broadest application integration, Platform LSF Electronics Edition integrates seamlessly with simulation, synthesis and verification applications from leaders such as Altera, Cadence, Denali, IBM, Magma, Mentor, Nassda, Synopsys, and Verisity.
"Verisity has a close relationship with Platform Computing as both a customer and vendor and we've appreciated the benefits of improved system productivity we've seen", said Michael McNamara, Senior Vice President of Technology, Verisity.
"Verisity's new verification management product, vManager, is seamlessly integrated with Platform LSF Electronics Edition to deliver a grid-enabled verification solution managing hundreds of thousands of jobs from planning to closure".
"The end result is that customers get to market sooner with higher predictability, enhanced product quality, and lower cost".
Drawn on years of deployments, premium support and maintenance consisting of electronics-specific consulting services and training helps organisations implement Platform LSF Electronics Edition to ensure reliability for customised services such as operations review; decision support; and methodology review.
These services can be "mixed-and-matched" to meet a company's unique needs.
Leveraging its experience in the Electronics industry, Platform has developed a new best practices guide that provides a systematic guide to maximising the ROI from the Platform LSF Electronics Edition and recommendations to make implementation easier and faster.
Underpinning Platform LSF Electronics Edition is the robust virtual execution machine (VEM).
The VEM is a high performance, production-proven grid architecture that incorporates a common application, workload and management infrastructure.
Deployed with over 1600 Platform customers, the VEM delivers unparalleled scalability, robustness, speed and flexibility.
"The Electronics industry is increasingly challenged with the growing complexity of generating designs such as SoCs that require computing power when needed, as needed".
"At the same time, it needs to reduce the high business cost of design errors and delays as well as the overall cost of IT", said Peter Nichol, VP, Electronics, Platform Computing.
"Platform LSF Electronics Edition marks the continued execution of Platform's strategy to deliver Industry-specific solutions across key vertical markets".
"This unique solution for the electronics market provides the greatest breadth and depth of functionality to allow our EDA customers to more quickly deliver quality designs".
