Networking SoC has MCU power to spare
The Precidia Technologies Cypher chip is now available to OEMs for embedding network connectivity into their products
The Cypher is a completely integrated SoC designed to network enable any new or existing serial-based device. With the Cypher, OEMs can add valuable networking features to their products without the costs and resources associated with such a project. The Cypher offers several unique advantages to the OEM wishing to add TCP/IP functionality to their products: Its small footprint (12 x 12mm) allows the designer to conserve valuable board space, and its embedded 8051 processor core is compatible with a broad range of widely available tools.

Choosing the Cypher allows OEMs to reduce their development costs and accelerate time to market, resulting in a competitive edge.
OEMs in a broad range of market sectors, including telecommunications, retail, wireless and control, can take advantage of the many value added features inherent in Cypher's ASSP design, including 64K Flash memory, 40K SRAM, a security coprocessor, four high-speed serial ports, general purpose I/O ports, and the ability to run existing 8051applications or act as a networking UART.
According to Precidia Technologies President Deepak Wanner: "The Cypher embeds everything required for a single chip networking solution.
The chip is smaller than a dime, yet has features that will enable equipment designers to add high speed networking features in a simple and cost effective manner".
"For designers that want to interconnect to high speed IP networks without having to become specialists in networking protocols and security, the Cypher is the right solution", says Wanner.
While working with several leading OEMs in sectors including retail payments to embed the Cypher in their product lines, Precidia will also embed the chip into its own products in 2002, adding significant new functionality to its existing line of access devices, including an ability to add more peripherals and network security.
