Signal conditioning redrivers are designed specifically to manage next generation high-speed protocols like SATA, SAS, XAUI, Fibre Channel and PCI Express

Pericom Semiconductor Corp is introducing its new family of signal conditioning redrivers that are designed specifically to manage next generation high-speed protocols like SATA, SAS, XAUI, Fibre Channel and PCI Express. Pericom's PI2EQX3201, PI2EQX3202, PI2EQX4501 and PI2EQX4502 offer unique solutions to solve high-speed signal integrity problems either on PC boards or through cables and multiple connector points while operating up to 4.5Gbit/s bandwidth.

The company is working with customers developing ATCA chassis on XAUI backplanes, test equipment, Fibre Channel switches and routers, blade and pizza box servers, large telecomms and datacomms chassis, and docking stations for notebook computers.

'The signal attenuation loss increases in almost an exponential form as trace lengths increase in a signal path using high speed differential signalling'.

'Pericom's industry unique devices boost signals by combining programmable equalisation and de-emphasis techniques at the transmit and receive points, respectively, on a signal path to ensure good signal integrity at the end points', explained Shaf Rahman, Director of Marketing.

'Another benefit to systems designers is that they can now use Pericom redrivers with inexpensive cables, such as Cat6 or flexible ribbon cables, instead of using very expensive cables to achieve good signal integrity at the end of the trace'.

'The Pericom applications laboratory has put together an exciting customer demonstration incorporating an impressive 25ft of Cat6 cable running signals in a 2.5Gbit/s PCI Express system'.

'We will be showcasing this at the next Intel Developer Forum in both San Francisco and Japan', continued Rahman.
