The Polar Si8000m multiple dielectric controlled impedance design system is an all-new field solver based on the boundary element method.

The Polar Si8000m multiple dielectric controlled impedance design system is an all-new field solver based on the boundary element method.

The Si8000 uses Polar's easy to operate "Quicksolver" interface, but adds the capability of modelling multiple dielectric layers.

The Si8000m can also cater for the presence of resin-rich areas between closely spaced differential pairs.

New for version 2.0 are optional modules that model 28 coplanar structures and 28 differential coplanar structures.

Also new is enhanced goal seeking and additional standard models supporting increased dielectric layers.

In addition to the accurate modelling of inner layer structures, the Si8000 supports enhanced models for surface traces, adding the ability to define a dielectric constant for solder masks, and also to define the mask thickness between and adjacent to differential pairs.

This is especially beneficial for users who need to predict how differing mask processes will affect finished impedance and propagation velocities.

For fabricators who need to predict and maximise yield, the Si8000 includes a tolerance seek facility which allows users to rapidly predict finished board impedance-controlled yield based on the tolerance data of the raw material and process.

"Many prospective customers have approached us and asked for a product which is more affordable in the present marketplace", remarks Ken Taylor, Polar Instruments Signal Integrity Product Manager.

"The Si8000m Version 2.00 is offered with a totally new modular structure, making the system affordable for a whole spectrum of customers from small professional design houses, through to major OEMs".

The Si8000 field solving controlled impedance design system is available on a 3- or 12-month subscription basis or alternatively a full licence.

The 3-month subscription is priced to suit designers who need to use an industry-standard field solver on a limited time basis.

12-month subscriptions include maintenance and support and are ideal for PCB shops that need a controlled impedance design system but prefer the flexibility of an annual licence more suited to changing requirements.

Floating seat licences are available for the first time on Polar Si8000m.
