HDMI compliance testing comes to Europe
Philips has opened the first authorised test centre in Europe for high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI)-compliant products
The site - in Caen, France - is the third HDMI ATC to be opened worldwide, and will improve global testing capacity and help speed the delivery of HDMI-compliant solutions to market. This announcement signifies Philips' commitment to driving the adoption of HDMI technology, which offers superior image quality for next-generation TV.

Adoption of HDMI technology is growing rapidly.
According to market analyst firm In-Stat, approximately 3 million TV sets were installed with HDMI connectors in 2004, representing 18% market share of the digital TV space.
By 2006, the analyst firm expects HDMI to be installed in approximately 20 million TV sets, bumping market share to 42%.
According to guidelines from the HDMI consortium, all manufacturers are required to test a sampling of their HDMI products at an ATC.
Until now, manufacturers have only had two ATCs to rely on - one based in Japan and the other in North America.
By opening the testing facility in Caen, Philips is increasing global testing capacity for HDMI-compliant solutions.
This will help manufacturers meet market demand for HDMI technology with tested solutions that guarantee compliance with the HDMI specifications and interoperability with other HDMI solutions.
'Philips, a founding member of the HDMI consortium, has already demonstrated its commitment to HDMI technology by introducing a complete family of HDMI-compliant receiver ICs and support tools for next-generation TV', said Patrick Lejoly, System and Application Manager for Philips Semiconductors' Data Convertors Product Line.
'Opening an authorised test centre is the next logical step for Philips to improve compliance of HDMI products and speed up their appearance on the market'.
'It is also an answer to growing demand from HDMI manufacturers for a world-class ATC facility located in Europe'.
The Philips ATC will comply with the rules edited by the HDMI consortium.
