UART gains FIFO
and real-time error detection
To support the ever-increasing speed and complexity in today's designs, the SC28L202 is the industry's first UART with a 256byte FIFO and real-time error detection
The SC28L202, the newest member of the Philips Impact line of communication devices, is a two-channel UART operating at high speed with low power consumption - operating at both 3 and 5V over the -40 to +85C temperature range. These features make the SC28L202 ideal for use in portable and handheld applications where power requirements are a key consideration.

Using all of the features of the Impact line UARTs, the SC28L202 is also suitable for use in telecom/networking, mobile communication/computing, consumer, industrial control, medical and security applications.
Each device in the Impact family, including Philips' newest UART device, is developed to suit several supply voltages, temperature ranges and bus architectures.
This allows the SC28L202 UART to function in multiple applications, eliminating the need for design engineers to source eight different UARTs to suit each application.
The SC28L202 UART has a unique real time data error detection mode that ensures data integrity by offloading tasks such as parity check, cyclic redundancy check and longitudinal redundancy from the CPU.
The 256byte FIFO channels also significantly reduce the CPU overhead by minimizing the need for error interrupts (four to 16x less) as it allows for interrupt at any level for each FIFO.

In addition, the FIFO also meets the requirements for processing larger data packets.

As part of Philips' Impact line of UARTs, the SC28L202 ensures operation at 3.3 and 5V over a temperature range of -40 to +85C at commercial pricing and with pin programming for a variety of bus applications.
Additional features of the SC28L202 UART include: three-character recognition; bus cycle times of 55ns at 3.3 and 5V; 16 GP I/Os for modem control, DMA; arbitrating interrupt; and complete automatic 9-bit mode Xon/Xoff.
The SC28L202 UART is currently available in the TSSOP 56 package in quantities of 1000.
