A new RVDT displacement transducer launched by Penny and Giles Controls uses technology developed for a number of leading Formula One engine suppliers. The rugged, high-integrity transducer is specially designed for harsh automotive and motorsport environments where performance and reliability under extremes of temperature, shock and vibration are paramount. The RVDT's low mass/high strength titanium body houses a high integrity ratiometric coil and rotor, and it can be supplied with a choice of stainless steel shafts and mounting flanges to suit high performance, high temperature engine control applications.

Penny and Giles can also supply its SCM100 signal-conditioning module for use with the RVDT.

As its performance and output are virtually unaffected by temperature and supply changes, the AC operated unit is ideal for use in the 'difference over sum' (ratiometric) configuration to provide high system accuracy.

It also offers a +/-60-degree electrical angle (120-degree total).

Other features of the new RVDT include contactless sensing elements, fast dynamic response, infinite resolution and virtually infinite service life, precision low torque bearings and an operating temperature range from -40 to +180C.
