The all-motor Magellan Developer's Kit from Performance Motion Devices (PMD), is an integrated board and software package that allows designers to evaluate and exercise PMD's Magellan family of motion processors. The developer's kit delivers dedicated multi-axis motion control for DC brush, brushless DC, microstepping and pulse and direction motors, providing a powerful tool for engineers who need to shorten design time while building sophisticated motion control systems. The motion control kit includes a four-axis PCI-based motion card with PMD's ultra-high-performance Magellan motion control IC that provides user selectable profiling modes including S-curve, trapezoidal, velocity contouring and electronic gearing.

It performs motor output signal generation (PWM, analogue and pulse and direction), servo loop closure for DC brush and brushless DC motors, and provides PLC-style inputs and outputs for custom applications control.

Other advanced features of the Magellan DK card include separately programmable acceleration and deceleration values, parallel I/O CANBus, serial point-to-point, multidrop host communications, dual-loop encoder input, biquad servo filtering, multiple profile breakpoints, and on-card servo trace.

The developer's kit includes the user's choice of a specific Magellan motion control IC installed on a surface-mount PCI motion card, interconnection cables, and a CD-ROM containing software and documentation.

By interfacing to an external amplifier and motor via two 50-pin header connectors, the user can create a complete motion system.

Included is PMD's C-Motion application programming interface (API), consisting of C source code for developing applications using Magellan motion processors.

This API can be used to write user applications with standard C and C++ language commands and can be linked to any Visual Basic application via PMD's VB-Motion.

The kit also includes PMD's powerful Pro-Motion exerciser program, a sophisticated, easy to use Windows -based program that allows the user to quickly exercise the motion hardware.

The Magellan motion processor developer's kit can be used as a platform to develop software, as a stand-alone chipset exerciser/testbed, or as a general-purpose motion development system.

It can also be used as a tool for developing and debugging application code.

It is available now for $995.00.
