Developed in collaboration with General Dynamics UK, the innovative M-HUMS system captures hours run and other use data by noninvasively sensing load currents in equipment power lines

A novel concept in health and usage monitoring technology was launched by Oxley this week at the Defence Systems and Equipment Exhibition (DSEi) 2005 in London. Developed in collaboration with General Dynamics UK, the innovative M-HUMS system captures hours run and other use data by noninvasively sensing load currents in equipment power lines.

It integrates current sensors in a vehicle power distribution unit (PDU), which ensures vehicle reliability is not affected even if the M-HUMS becomes damaged or is removed.

The M-HUMS can also connect to the main vehicle health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) to provide a comprehensive platform and LRU (line replacement unit) data capture system.

The usage data is captured and stored in nonvolatile EEPROM for interrogation by Oxley e-tag contact memory readers such as those being deployed by the British Army for asset control.

It can also easily integrate to software asset management systems such as BLIS and James to assist reliability centred maintenance planning and provide shared data for contractor logistics support industrial arrangements.

The system is easy to install and simply requires the addition of a small unit and one extra cable to be installed into a vehicle.

It is smaller, lighter and lower in cost than other solutions and is therefore ideal for retrofit as well as new build vehicles.
