Omron Electronic Components Business Europe (OCB-EU) will launch a breakthrough UWB chip antenna at Electronica specifically designed to address size, performance and cost challenges in computing and consumer environments. Omron will also showcase an exciting new range of innovative 'jog' dials for the latest mobile phones, MP3 players and PDAs. Both products will be demonstrated on the stand alongside the recently launched B6TS touch sensor IC and D6F sensors for detection of air/gas mass flow.

Omron's breakthrough in UWB antenna construction has been to identify a new polymer-based material that allows devices of sufficient performance to be mass produced at low cost and with unique antenna characteristics.

Complementing Omron's existing portfolio of RF components, the antenna, which is in surface mounting 'chip' format, continues the company's strategy of identifying and developing solutions that help take emerging, high performance communications technologies to the consumer market.

Electronica will also be the platform for launching a new range of five way multifunction jog dials that set standards for performance, reliability and size in compact portable user interfaces.

Features include miniature integral magnets that provide smooth contactless actuation with positive feedback and just one moving part.

Also on show will be Omron's recently launched B6TS touch sensor IC family and D6F range of MEMS-based sensors.

The B6TS 'application ready' capacitive touch sensor is designed to enable flexible, responsive and reliable touch controls in a wide range of applications including consumer brown and white goods and industrial control equipment.

It is highly tolerant of its working environment with features such as self-teaching, auto threshold and intelligent filtering, and can be used with any flat or curved nonconductive panel material such as wood, plastic, marble and rubber.

The D6F MEMS-based mass flow and velocity sensors provide high-precision monitoring of air/gas mass flow in a wide range of applications including medical, spectroscopy, scientific/test equipment and industrial process control.

A key attribute of the sensors is a built in dust segregation system (DSS) which separates up to 99.5% of dry air borne particulate matter (simulation result) helping to maintain performance characteristics of the sensor over its lifetime.
