A new Omron motorised card reader writer for magnetic and IC cards uses 30% fewer functional components than previous readers

A new Omron motorised card reader writer for magnetic and IC cards uses 30% fewer functional components than previous readers, helping equipment manufacturers to meet EU and international product take-back or recycling guidelines. The reduced component count also enhances reliability, service life and power consumption to further reduce environmental impact.

The Omron V2X supports five current standards for magnetic, IC and synchronous memory cards including EMV 3.1.1, ZKA, CB and ISO/IEC 7816-3.

It uses just 50% of the power required by a comparable Omron card reader, reducing operational current from 2.0 to 1.0A and standby current from 400 to 200mA.

By intelligently analysing the magnetic stripe card output, the V2X successfully reads scratched or otherwise impaired cards without repeated rereading, and is also able to identify the cause of a 'failure to read' condition, instead of capturing the card.

The reader is easily dismantled for repair or recycling, and all polymer components are labelled with the type of material used, which is important to enable recycling.

The reduced parts count of the V2X also reduces the bill of materials cost and enhances reliability.

Most of the reader's components can be recycled.

The card transport features four pairs of rollers, which can be removed ready for exchange by loosening a single screw.

The magnetic heads are ceramic for high abrasion resistance, yielding service life of 2 million passes.

They are easily replaced without requiring adjustment.

The V2X features a V24 host interface and optional USB interface, and measures 108 x 90 x 210mm.
