That's a relief: MIL socket only takes one hand
Omron has developed new compact MIL standard connectors featuring space saving strain relief sections, which can be easily connected and disconnected using one hand.
Omron has developed new compact MIL standard connectors featuring space saving strain relief sections, which can be easily connected and disconnected using one hand.
The XG4M socket and accompanying XG4U strain relief socket lock from Omron combine to reduce connector width by 24% when unlocked, and 17% when locked, compared to other Omron models such as the XG4A.
In addition, the mounting height is further reduced by 24% compared to the conventional MIL connector, enabling thinner and more compact devices.
This is achieved using a new metal spring design in the lock lever which is located on the strain relief section and enables use of shorter levers.
The metal spring is designed to directly grip the socket body during unlocking, ensuring the cable remains firmly connected at all times.
As a result, the connectors are easier to handle than conventional flat cable connectors, enabling them to be connected and disconnected using one hand.
The strain relief section also works to grip the cable inwards if tugged, providing at least 15kgf locking strength and further adding to connector integrity.
The sockets and strain relief sections have been designed for use with AWG28 strand wire, are available with 10 to 64 contacts to suit a wide range of applications and are rated at 1A, 250V AC with 500V AC withstand voltage for 1min.
All components conform to MIL standards and have a mechanical lifespan of at least 50 operations.

- Omron launches MIL connectors
Omron Electronics (OCB-EU) has introduced a range of MIL connectors featuring a locking mechanism that can be easily be operated with one hand, and reduces the PCB footprint and mounted height. - Flexible circuit connectors keep a lower profile
Ultra-low-profile flexible printed circuit connectors feature Omron's patented rotary backlock mechanism that gives reliable termination in fewer production steps. - OSA pairs handle high-speed video transmission
The SX51 TOSA device transmits three video and one high-speed clock digital data lane at up to 3.5Gbit/s. - Industrial connectors provide IP67 protection
Omron's Smartclick connector system reduces assembly time compared to screw styles. - Touch control handles varying switches
Designers using Omron B6TS technology can now select different styles of control for each of up to 16 available channels, allowing one chip to manage rotary, slider and on-off switches.
