OK International's Metcal brand APR-5000-XLS array package rework system for larger PCBs will be demonstrated on Stand G610 at Nepcon UK.

As lead-free electronics manufacture becomes the norm, the importance of rework will be catapulted to unprecedented levels as the much higher solder melt temperatures of lead-free alloys, as compared with eutectic solder, will result in significantly smaller process windows (as low as 5-15C compared with 40C); and, inevitably to more products reaching rework departments.

Consequently, manufacturers establishing lead-free processes must ensure that they only specify rework machines capable of delivering the necessary thermal performance for lead-free assemblies, and on a repeatable basis, in order to guarantee true stability of their processes.
