Organised by Octomedia, the 2006 medical device Technology Exhibition and Conference will be held at the NEC, Birmingham on 15th and 16th February 2006. The UK's medical device and in vitro diagnostic (IVD) industry is valued at Eur 9 billion and the annual Medical Device Technology (MDT) event is the UK's only dedicated showcase of this vibrant and growing market. One of the key aims of the UK Government's Healthcare Industries Task Force (HITF) is to promote and support development of new healthcare technologies.

Reflecting this focus, innovation will once again be a key theme of the MDT event in 2006.

The Innovation and Presentation Centre will feature a series of free to attend sessions from innovators and market experts who will share the very latest thinking and industry developments.

MDT 2005 saw Trevor Bayliss talk about the world of inventing and protecting the 'great ideas'.

The show will include a Technology Transfer Showcase which will bring together the NHS, leading universities and blue sky organisations to present the emerging technologies that can be used in the medical device industry.

The resounding success of the MDT Innovation Forum held in July of this year has prompted the organisers to hold a similar networking opportunity alongside the 2006 MDT exhibition.

The MDT Collaboration Forum is designed to bring together professionals working in the design and manufacture of medical devices and IVD products.

The main theme will be 'Where problems meet solutions' and attending delegates will be able to create a personal schedule of speaker sessions, discussion groups and one-to-one meetings, all set up in advance via the forum's website.

The event, now in its 13th year, will build on the success of the 2005 event and is expected to attract even more visitors and over 170 companies exhibiting the full range of products, components and services used in the manufacture of finished medical devices.

In the early stages of development, the 2006 conference will focus on the key issues of regulatory approval and risk management together with a new track dedicated to micro and nano technology.

An expert line up of speakers will explore the latest thinking, key developments, issues and trends, which are driving the medical device and IVD industries.

The MDT Exhibition and Conference 2006 will colocate with seven other complementary manufacturing shows.

Preregistered visitors will gain entry to the MDT 2006 exhibition and will also be able to visit 3C (Contamination Control and Cleanroom Products); Practical Vacuum; Drives and Motion Control Systems; IPOT (Image Processing and Optical Technology) incorporating Machine Vision and Displays Technology; MTEC (Sensors, Measurement and Instrumentation); Machine Building and Automation; and Pneumotion.
