New Forest Electronics has become UK distributor for the FSA32 PC based serial data analyser made by FIFO Electronics in Sweden. This product is a Windows based protocol analyser for debugging asynchronous serial communications. It uses the standard COM ports of a PC, and does not require any other hardware except for the physical connection to the line.

For this purpose a useful range of breakout boxes is available.

The analyser: runs under Windows 95 and higher; uses COM1-8; displays bidirectional data if at least two COM ports are available; has standard speeds from 100 to 115,200bit/s, plus non-standard speeds; features standard parities including mark, space, odd, even and none; displays CTS, DCD, DRS and RI control lines; displays data in hex and ASCII; and incorporates time stamping, triggers and logging to printer and file.

For potential users wishing to try before buying, a free demonstration version of the analyser is available.
