Standardisation confirms WPAN roadmap
The IEEE has confirmed the Chirp Spread Spectrum (CSS) physical layer (PHY) in the new wireless draft standard 802.15.4a
Nanotron Technologies has led the CSS standardisation and developed solutions which offer CSS' benefits: long range, high robustness and low power consumption. The new standard targets applications such as real time location systems (RTLS), industrial control, sensor networking and medical devices.

IEEE standard adds to chirp support
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has approved the chirp spread spectrum (CSS) physical layer (PHY) in its new wireless standard 802.15.4a
The IEEE802.15.4a standard passed its first sponsor ballot with a 94% approval rating.
Sponsor ballot is the final level in the IEEE balloting process.
The draft had already passed several rounds of letter ballots within the 802.15 Working Group before proceeding to its latest milestone.

Chirp spread spectrum is basis for new standard
The ISO and IEC have jump-started a new standard for real time locating systems based on chirp spread spectrum technology
The final standard is expected to be published by the IEEE in March 2007.
Nanotron's CEO Dr Jens Albers adds: 'The standardisation progress is a further step on our roadmap to satisfy the market demand for suitable chips for WPANs (wireless personal area networks)'.
'Key customers as well as our partners worldwide show strong interest in Chirp-based products'.
'A standard-compliant component will help increase our market share'.
The first CSS solutions based on the new standard will be launched by Nanotron Technologies in 2007.
These products will offer both robust communication with minimal power consumption and 'location awareness' - precise localisation based on Nanotron's SDS-TWR technology.
The advantages of Chirp technology are already available and in use: nanoNET offers datarates of up to 2Mbit/s, range of up to 900m (outdoors) and typically 60m (indoors) without an external power amplifier (at 10mW), and even further with one.
Complete application solutions, as well as components such as Transceiver chips, RF modules and software, can be ordered from Nanotron.
Nanotron is committed to open industry standards, and offers total solutions encompassing chips, networking software, development tools and custom project support.
