This month's ECOC exhibition in Glasgow heralds the global launch of Pirelli Broadband Solutions - the new photonics focused arm of Pirelli. The new company develops customer premises equipment (CPE), service platforms, and optical components and subsystems for telecommunications operators worldwide. Pirelli's commitment to ECOC comes as major industry players sign up to the event, one of the world's leading gatherings for companies from the optical components industry.
'Conference paper submissions have almost hit record levels and this late rush of exhibitors is creating a real buzz around the whole event', said Simon Kears, Nexus Media Marketing Manager.
'There is a real buoyancy and confidence in the build up to ECOC which we have not seen for some years'.
Also coming to ECOC is Bookham, one of the world's leading providers of optical components, modules and subsystems.
'ECOC is the leading European exhibition for the optical industry and this is reflected in Bookham's presence at the show', said Paul Morris, European Sales Director at Bookham.
'Visitors to the Bookham stand will be able to see a number of new and existing products, some of which will be on display for the first time in Europe'.
'We will also be sharing the results of our research in three technical papers, which we are presenting at the conference, showing the strength of Bookham's tunable technology'.
As well as major players, there are also many specialist companies coming to the event for the first time.
Among these is Alker Optical Equipment of Nottingham, which has chosen the show to mark 20 years in the industry.
In this time the company has shown continued growth and a reputation for exceptionally high standards in optical fibre termination on a world scale.
'Not only is ECOC one of the industry's largest events, it is also an excellent showcase for smaller niche companies with a track record of high quality and reliability', said Alker Director, Richard Kershaw.
'As the photonics market demands higher power transmissions, the quality of the fibre terminations has to be excellent, ECOC is an ideal venue for us to show what we can offer'.
ECOC - now in its 31st year - is Europe's largest optical communications conference and exhibition and attracts senior figures to both events.
This year's conference being held in Glasgow is particularly timely as the Scottish optoelectronics Association celebrates its 10th year of operations.
The conference runs from 25th to 29th September, with the exhibition taking place from 26th to 28th September.
