The European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC) is set to reflect growing market optimism in September, with an exhibition already three-quarters full and exhibitors investing in additional space and features on their stands. ECOC's arrival at the impressive Stockholmsmassan International Trades Fair centre comes at a time when exhibitors are registering from all over the world. More than 40 countries will be represented and there will also be international pavilions from Canada, Scotland, Ireland, Asia, France and, for the first time, the UK.

"There has been a real surge of interest since the turn of the year", said Highbury Business Marketing Manager Lucy Van Renselar.

"It is very encouraging to see the global spread of companies who are planning to attend and also the fact that many of them are booking much larger stands than in the past couple of years".

ECOC is Europe's largest optical communications conference and exhibition.

A powerful forum, it attracts senior figures to both events.

This year's conference is being staged from 5th to 9th September, with the exhibition being held on 6th to 8th September.

"ECOC is practically as old and established as fibre communication itself - this is the 30th year we meet to discuss the progress and future of optical communication.

The venue in Stockholm is a large, internationally known conference centre with ample facilities for both conference, exhibition and surrounding activities", said Conference Chairman Per O Andersson.

"The attendance this year, as judged by the submissions to the conference and exhibition, is among the highest registered, and shows the renewed faith in and importance of optical technologies.

Moreover, I dare say that ECOC is probably the most highly regarded scientific event in the area today.

I certainly welcome all professionals in the field to visit us in Stockholm, and we are committed to do our utmost to make ECOC 2004 an outstanding event".
