Nazomi Communications has licensed Sun Microsystems' Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) and Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP). The CLDC and MIDP are part of the Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition J2ME platform, a scaled down version of the Java platform that is designed for use in smaller footprint mobile and consumer products. The agreement will give Nazomi access to Sun's Java technology that Nazomi will incorporate into its current JA108 universal acceleration chip for Java architectures and multimedia, and in its Jstar and Jsmart acceleration technologies.
Nazomi's JA108, Jstar and Jsmart solutions are optimised for mobile wireless and such environments where performance, power consumption, cost, size and time to market are critical success factors.
Mukesh Patel, president and CEO of Nazomi said, "Through this licensing agreement, Nazomi and Sun will be able to share information and technology that will augment both of our companies' product roadmaps".
"We see Nazomi's creative work in developing technology and products for J2ME as important to the industry", said Rich Green, vice president and general manager, Java and XML Software, Sun Microsystems.
"Nazomi's full implementation of the CLDC/MIDP specifications, together with Sun's proven Java technology, will give third-party vendors an end-to-end development environment for the wireless world".
Jay Kamdar, COO and vice president of sales and marketing at Nazomi noted, "Entering into this agreement with Sun enables us to deliver a complete development environment to our customer base.
Now, as part of Nazomi's universal acceleration solutions, we can instantly turn 'any phone' into a Java platform and enable OEMs to develop their end products faster and with a higher level of confidence so that they will perform to end users' ever increasing sophisticated requirements".
