High-bandwidth ADC reduces IF demands
National Semiconductor has unveiled the industry's first 14bit dual 1GHz-input bandwidth ADC with serial LVDS outputs.
National Semiconductor has unveiled the industry's first 14bit, dual, 1GHz-input bandwidth analogue-to-digital convertor (ADC) with serial low-voltage differential signalling (LVDS) outputs for demanding communications, test and measurement, and imaging applications At 105Msample/s, the ADC14DS105 heads a new family of 16 high-bandwidth 12 and 14bit ADCs

World's smallest multifunction supervisory ICs
National Semiconductor has announced a family of supervisory ICs with a variety of factory-programmable features that can be configured in hundreds of possible combinations.
Designed with National's unique low-power pipeline architecture on its 0.18um CMOS process technology, the ADC family's high bandwidth performance enables excellent noise and distortion performance for 240MHz and higher intermediate frequencies (IF).
The ADC14DS105 provides a typical signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 72dB and a spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) of 83dB at a 240MHz input frequency.
This performance allows high intermediate-frequency (IF) sampling to eliminate an IF stage, relaxes filtering constraints and permits multicarrier architectures.
For third-generation (3G) communication receivers, designers can select 12bit products to digitise one or two carriers, or 14bit products to digitise three or four carriers requiring a higher dynamic range.
The ADC family, with sample rates from 65 to 105Msample/s, features parallel CMOS or serial low-voltage differential signalling (LVDS) output options.
The LVDS outputs reduce system noise while decreasing the number of input/output (I/O) pins and traces, enabling easier signal routing and flexible system partitioning.
National offers the dual ADCs in a lead-free, 60-pin LLP (leadless leadframe) package and the single ADCs in a lead-free, 32-pin LLP package.
These ADCs give engineers the ability to upgrade between sampling rates and resolutions, selecting from any of the eight interchangeable dual-channel products or eight interchangeable single-channel products.
Samples of selected ADCs are available for qualified customers through National's local sales offices, with production quantities scheduled for release throughout 2007.
The dual ADC14DS105 is priced at $82.35 each and the single ADC14C105 is priced at $41 each in 1000-unit quantities.
