Differential amplifiers provide fast
signal paths
Latest differential amplifiers provide high-speed analogue signal-path systems for test and measurement, medical imaging and communications applications.
National Semiconductor has two new high-speed, low-distortion differential amplifiers and two high-speed, low-power, 12bit analogue-to-digital convertors (ADCs) that form a high-performance, high-fidelity and low-power signal-path solution National's LMH6550 and LMH6551 amplifiers are optimised for driving high-speed ADCs such as the new 12-bit ADC12DL040 and ADC12DL065

"National's new combination of high-performance amplifiers and ADCs provides the most accurate signal capture at the lowest power consumption".

The LMH6550 and the ADC12DL040 operate seamlessly to provide a high-quality signal-path solution.
Lab measurements show that the pair produces 11.1 effective number of bits (ENOB) and 80dB of spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) with a 20MHz input frequency.
With this guaranteed performance, engineers can confidently implement National's signal-path solutions in their designs.
The ADC12DL040 and ADC12DL065 are dual, high-performance, low-power ADCs capable of converting analogue input signals into 12bit digital words at 40 and 65Msample/s, respectively.
These ADCs provide excellent dynamic performance and 250MHz full-power bandwidth.
Operating on a single 3V power supply, the ADC12DL040 achieves 11.1ENOB with input signals up to 20MHz and consumes just 210mW at 40Msample/s.
The ADC12DL065 achieves 11.0ENOB with input signals up to 32.5MHz and consumes 360mW at 65Msample/s.
National recently introduced two other 12bit ADCs, the dual, 66Msample/s ADC12DL066 and the single, 80Msample/s ADC12L080, which are also optimised for signal-path applications.
The LMH6550 and LMH6551 are fully differential, high-speed amplifiers designed for driving 10 to 14bit, high-performance ADCs such as the ADC12DL040 and ADC12DL065.
Both amplifiers have fully differential voltage feedback topology, which allows balanced inputs to ADCs, and they can be used either as single-ended-to-differential or as differential-to-differential amplifiers.
The LMH6550 has SFDR of -86dBc at 10MHz, wide 400MHz bandwidth and high 3000V/us slew rates.
It also has a 10ns shutdown/disable function and operates at +5 or +/-5V supply voltages.
The LMH6551 has SFDR of -85dBc at 10MHz, wide 370MHz bandwidth and high 2400V/us slew rates.
It also has an output balance error of -70dB and operates at +3, +5 or +/-5V supply voltages.
The LMH6550 and LMH6551, available now in SOIC-8 packaging, are priced at $2.29 and $1.60, respectively, in 1000-unit quantities.
The ADC12DL040, available now in a TQFP-64 package, is priced at $15 in 1,000-unit quantities.
The ADC12DL065, available in April and packaged in a TQFP-64, will be priced at $17 in 1000 unit quantities.
