National Semiconductor has announced the DP83862, a low-cost, highly integrated dual-port 10/100/1000 physical layer transceiver.
It also enables continued growth in the high-end manufacturing of advanced analogue processes for integrated circuits used in products such as mobile phones, telecomms applications and flat panel displays.
Gerry Edwards, Vice President of National Semiconductor (UK), said: "This investment is good news for National - and for Scotland - and will ensure that Greenock remains a key player as a manufacturing site for National Semiconductor".
"This will provide the capacity to increase production, reduce manufacturing costs and ensure that we retain our edge in a very competitive marketplace".

Confidence in the long-term future of the Greenock site was also highlighted by Brian Halla, National's Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, during a recent visit to the Greenock site.
He said: "This investment underlines the site's reputation as a world-class manufacturer and highlights the central role Greenock has in the corporation".
