Monterey Design Systems has made two new senior executive appointments.

Bill Ross has joined the company as vice president of North American sales.

Ross comes to Monterey with over 20 years of experience in software sales and business development.

He will focus on expanding the company's sales and support efforts in the United States and Canada and will report to Jacques Benkoski, president and CEO.

The company has also promoted Dennis Yamamoto to vice president of operations, also reporting to Benkoski.

Formerly senior director of operations, Yamamoto has been with the company since its inception.

His responsibilities include quality assurance, product configuration, manufacturing and delivery, and technical publications.

"This last year has been one of tremendous achievement for us", stated Benkoski.

"Now that our System-Driven Physical Design solution is proven and in the hands of customers, we are focusing this next year on expanding our sales and support efforts.

Bill is an extremely talented professional with a proven track record of sales success and a great addition to our management team".

Ross will spearhead the company's market penetration in North America, with a sales and support team of more than 30 people.

"Our operations staff has done a terrific job of ensuring the quality, reliability, and deliverability of our products", continued Benkoski.

"Dennis and his team have developed and implemented a QA and product delivery process that enabled us to dramatically exceed our aggressive product quality goals during the second half of last year".

Yamamoto has been promoted in recognition of the level of quality achieved in the recent IC Wizard 2.2 and Dolphin 2.0 releases.

Monterey's sales and support organisation now numbers over 50 people worldwide, with field offices in North America, Europe, and Asia/Pacific.

The company plans continued expansion in all geographic areas.

Ross joins Monterey from Cygnus Solutions, which was acquired by Red Hat in 1999.

While at Cygnus, he was responsible for the company's 200% rise in revenues in two years.

Prior to that, Ross held sales and management positions with EDA companies such as Mentor Graphics, Zuken, and IBM.

Ross received his BSc in nuclear engineering from Pennsylvania State University.

Yamamoto started with Monterey in 1997 and has 20 years of experience with EDA technology and tools.

Previously, he was director of engineering at Silicon Graphics, in charge of developing and integrating full custom EDA tools for microprocessor design.

Prior to that, he was vice president of engineering for EDA software development at LSI Logic.

Yamamoto holds a BSEE from the University of Washington.
