Fujitsu licenses Molex
for InfiniBand interconnect
Molex has signed a patent licence agreement with Fujitsu Components in Japan to produce 4x and 12x input/output (I/O) interconnects supporting the InfiniBand architecture
The Fujitsu Component technology, MicroGiGaCN (MicroGiga Connector), has been selected by the InfiniBand Trade Association (IBTA) as the standard I/O connector for InfiniBand's 4x and 12x I/O specification. Bob Thornton, marketing manager, Fujitsu Components America, said, "Growing support throughout the industry for Infiniband architecture reflects the need for a standard I/O technology, such as the MicroGiGaCN, that can keep pace with emerging, high-end convergence applications".

"This new technology provides a scaleable and flexible interface for today's InfiniBand applications as well as next generation uses", said Dave Root, president, Americas Region's Connector Products Division, Molex Incorporated.
"The InfiniBand architecture meets the demands of the entry level to high-end enterprise systems.
We are eager to add the MicroGiGaCN technology to our offering which now completes our total I/O solutions approach for InfiniBand".
The connector is designed to enable a 2.5Gbit/s connection with four or 12 wire link widths.
The connector is scaleable from 500Mbyte/s to 6Gbit/s for each link.
Applications include a wide variety of storage and internetworking.
The patent license agreement allows Molex to access Fujitsu's MicroGiGaCN intellectual property to support the InfiniBand standards.
The two companies will work hand in hand to offer the industry intermateable and interchangeable connectors.
