MIPS Technologies has licensed its MIPS32 and MIPS64 architectures to IDT. Licensing the MIPS32 and MIPS64 architectures, combined with IDT's previously announced license of the MIPS32 4Kc core, allows IDT to select the most appropriate approach for the development of its next generation of integrated communications processors. "IDT and MIPS Technologies have enjoyed an extensive and long-standing relationship, and pioneered some of the earliest embedded design wins for MIPS.
The scalability, flexibility and compatibility of the MIPS32 and MIPS64 architectures coupled with the breadth of third party tool support available for this industry-standard architecture, enables IDT to efficiently design integrated processors optimised to solve specific system bandwidth bottlenecks for our customers who are developing next-generation enterprise and access equipment", said Phil Bourekas, vice president of the Internetworking Products Division at IDT.
"IDT is a long-established licensee of the MIPS instruction set architecture, and we are delighted to expand the relationship with the MIPS32 and MIPS64 architectures", said Derek Meyer, vice president of worldwide field operations at MIPS Technologies.
"IDT is one of many customers who value the fact that the diversity of the MIPS business model proliferates a broad range of highly innovative, scalable, code-compatible solutions.
These include cores licensed by MIPS Technologies, and licensee-designed core implementations, from which customers can select the most appropriate for their needs.
The result is that IDT has the design headroom to grow, its software investment is protected, and it will have the continued support of hundreds of development tools, operating systems and applications".
