Mentor Graphics expects third quarter results to exceed Wall Street consensus estimates for both earnings and revenues. The company expects revenues to be in excess of $150 million, and said that its book-to-bill was strongly positive. "This is only the second time in the last decade of the company's history that we have had a positive book-to-bill in a third quarter", said Walden C Rhines, Chairman and CEO.

"Remarkably, we saw software bookings growth in all regions, with particular strength in North America and the Pacific Rim.

Total bookings were up more than 35% from the third quarter of 2001.

We were pleased to note that we closed all three of the large contracts that had slipped at the end of the second quarter and we generated and closed a significant number of new deals, as well.

A strong sales funnel, exiting the quarter, gives us a great start into the fourth quarter".
