Mentor Graphics and TSMC have announced immediate availability of the first off-the-shelf analogue design kits for TSMC's analogue/mixed-signal (AMS) process technologies

Mentor Graphics and Taiwan semiconductor manufacturing Company (TSMC) have announced immediate availability of the first off-the-shelf analogue design kits for TSMC's analogue/mixed-signal (AMS) process technologies. The new design kits cut weeks off design time, increase productivity, improve design quality and ultimately, help designers improve time-to-market.

Mentor Graphics and TSMC collaborated to develop and distribute analogue design kits specifically for TSMC's 0.18-micron mixed-mode CMOS technology, with additional process technologies to follow.

The new design kits, aimed at the Mentor Graphics AMS IC design flow environment, offer the components necessary for mixed-mode transistor-level designs.

They allow designers to immediately begin creating, simulating and verifying designs based on TSMC's cutting-edge technology.

The design kits include schematic symbols, process files, and all other configuration files needed to construct a comprehensive design environment, giving designers a complete, full-featured solution with Mentor Graphics AMS IC design tools.

The design kits are compatible with TSMC-supported Eldo simulation models, Calibre DRC and LVS command files.

"In response to the time-to-market pressures companies are facing today, Mentor has teamed with TSMC to make setting up analog design environments fast and easy", said Jue-Hsien Chern, vice president and general manager for the Deep Submicron (DSM) division of Mentor Graphics.

"Analogue design kits are a fundamental part of the Mentor AMS design strategy to provide a complete and fully integrated design tool flow".

"TSMC's mixed-mode processes are widely used by designers of wireless, networking and other communication applications - where time-to-volume is crucial.

Anything that can give a designer an edge to speed up the design time is a great asset", said Dr Genda Hu, vice president of corporate marketing for TSMC.

"Mentor's IC design kit provides just that advantage by helping designers gear their designs directly to our production silicon".

The first design kit for the 0.18-micron mixed-mode CMOS technology is now available.

Beginning in Q3 2001, designers will be able to download the process design kits from TSMC's password-controlled web site.
