Advanced design technology
added to PCB design

Mentor Graphics has released the latest version of its Board Station family of PCB design tools, EN2000.5

The Board Station family includes tools for design creation, layout and manufacture, and is designed to meet the requirements of enterprise design teams. EN2000.5 offers new advanced technology support, such as expanded design reuse tools, improved microvia checking and the addition of function managed variant design capability, for enhanced productivity and shortened design times.

"As the leader in PCB design tools, we have the resources to continually enhance both of our existing product lines with new technology and expanded capabilities", said Henry Potts, general manager and vice president, Systems Design Division, Mentor Graphics.

"Combined with the AutoActive design environment, these latest enhancements to Board Station will enable even higher levels of innovation and productivity for customers in an enterprise environment".

Board Station offers the advanced design features, data management and library capabilities required in the enterprise environment, with teams of designers leveraging data and processes from multiple locations in a global organisation.

Design reuse allows designers to incorporate proven portions of designs that have already been placed, routed and verified.

Board Station EN2000.5 features enhanced design reuse capabilities for shortened design times.

EN2000.5 offers the ability to automatically create a complete library part from a reuse block, including a library catalogue entry, a mapping file and component geometry.

With EN2000.5 users have the ability to name reuse block files so they can be easily identified according to their components, and to designate reuse blocks as replica blocks for users that want to copy and preserve multiple variations of an individual reuse block.

Board Station EN2000.5 offers enhanced checking of microvia design rules for improved manufacturability.

Unique clearances can now be defined between microvias, and between microvias and traditional vias.

Function managed variants are now supported throughout the Board Station design process flow, allowing designers to create multiple versions of similar PCBs from one common core, minimising design time.

If a new variant is required, there is no need to modify all of the component property assignments throughout the schematic.

The user simply creates the new variant, assigns the desired functions to it and then generates documentation.

Board Station RE is now integrated with Board Station using AutoActive technology for PCB placement and routing.

The AutoActive technology combines the power of shape-based automatic routing and interactive editing into a single, easy to use editing environment.

Board Station RE reduces design time significantly, reducing the time required for the interactive and automatic routing portion of a complex design from weeks to days.

AutoActive performance has been proven to significantly improve route completion, routing time and route quality and manufacturability.

The improved integration available with EN2000.5 supports launching of Board Station RE directly from within Board Station.

Design data and rules can be modified and maintained in both environments.

This release also includes significant technology improvements to support rules by area, dynamic area fills, new multinet bus routing algorithms, and adjacent or broadside differential pairs.

For maximum flexibility, EN 2000.5 is certified for use on Solaris, HP and Windows NT operating systems.

Board Station series pricing starts at $28,000. Request a free brochure from Mentor Graphics UK....
