Tiny dual current-output DACs in
a 3 x 3mm TQFN
Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX5548 (8bit) and MAX5550 (10bit) dual, 30mA, current-output digital-to-analogue convertors (DACs) in a 3 x 3mm TQFN package
The 9mm2 TQFN package saves considerable board space compared with the nearest competitive solution at 30mm2 in a TSSOP. These devices feature a pin-selectable SPI or I2C interface. They are also highly accurate and guaranteed monotonic over the -40 to +85C operating temperature range. These low-cost, current-output DACs are ideal for applications such as PIN-diode biasing, RF attenuator control, and VCO tuning.

The MAX5548/MAX5550 feature a single +2.7 to +5.5V supply range and low 200uA/DAC supply current.
A software-selectable shutdown feature reduces the supply current to 5uA (max).
These devices feature a +1.25V internal reference, but also accept an external reference from +1.225 to +1.275V.
Addressing options allow multiple devices to be connected to the same bus in I(2)C applications.
The MAX5548/MAX5550 are available in ultra-small, 3 x 3mm, 16-pin TQFN packages.
