The DS2703 is a battery pack authentication IC that implements a challenge/response scheme using the Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA-1) specified in the Federal Information Publication 180-1/2 and ISO/IEC 10118-3, to authenticate a battery pack for a host system such as a cellphone, PDA, or other portable computing devices Integrating the DS2703 in the battery pack allows the host to guard against unauthorised packs that could introduce unknown function or substandard operation, and even cause harm to the user
