Maxim Integrated Products describes the MAX9993 as the industry's highest performing, fully integrated SiGe mixer.

Maxim Integrated Products describes the MAX9993 as the industry's highest performing, fully integrated SiGe mixer The MAX9993 is specifically designed to meet the demanding requirements of any GSM/DCS/PCS/Edge, iDEN, PHS, and 3G wireless infrastructure systems

Contained on one integrated circuit, the MAX9993 delivers an outstanding IIP3 of 23.5dB, a conversion gain of 8.5dB, and an impressively low noise figure of 9.5dB.

As the MAX9993 provides more than 8dB of conversion gain, the designer can eliminate a complete IF amplifier stage within the receiver lineup, saving cost and improving board yields.

Concurrently, it replaces two amps, two baluns, an LO switch, plus dozens of other discrete components.

Through this integration, the total board space used by the mixer is reduced by a factor of four, and the discrete part count is reduced by 30%.

Besides delivering performance that rivals the very best GaAs solutions, the MAX9993 provides the reliability and ESD robustness that only a silicon-based process (SiGe) can deliver.

The MAX9993 is ideal for GSM DCS/PCS, cdma2000, WB-CDMA and CDMA multicarrier and single-carrier basestation applications where high linearity and low noise are required for good bit error rate performance.

Superb IIP2 performance of better than 60dBm also eases receiver filtering requirements of close-in harmonics that can degrade error vector magnitude.

On-chip RF and LO baluns and built-in matching circuits interface to 50ohm terminations.

Frequency hopping is supported with the high-isolation integrated LO switch with switching speeds of less than 50ns and better than 40dB of LO1-to-LO2 isolation.

The onboard LO buffer provides tight drive-variance control, yielding a consistent G, NF, and IIP3 performance over temperature, supply, and input power.

The MAX9993 is available in a compact 5 x 5mm 20-pin thin QFN.

Prices start at $11.95 (1000-up, FOB USA).
