Maxim reckons the MAX8520 and MAX8521 are the world's smallest, coolest-running Peltier thermoelectric controller (TEC) drivers for small form factor (SFF) and small form factor pluggable (SFP) fibre-optic modules These devices integrate power mosfets, protection, and monitoring circuits, and are compatible with analogue or digital temperature control circuits

Speedy DAC claims dynamic superiority for comms
The MAX5195 is a 14bit 260Msample/s DAC claimed to provide the world's best dynamic performance in spurious-free dynamic range, intermodulation distortion and signal to noise ratio.
Low-power serial ADC runs up to 200Ksample/s
New from Maxim Integrated Products, the MAX1162 serial-interface 16bit A/D convertor connects directly to SPI, QSPI and Microwire devices without additional interface logic.
Switching frequency is adjustable up to 1MHz, reducing the size of external components and the circuit footprint to 0.31in2.
Compared with competing products, the MAX8520/MAX8521 feature 50% lower power mosfet on-resistance, reducing heat generation by 50%.
The MAX8520/MAX8521 control the TEC current, unlike competitors' devices which control the TEC voltage.
This current control scheme eliminates surge currents in the TEC and improves system reliability.
Individual, accurate heating/cooling current limits and voltage-limit protection provide the safest design.
The MAX8520/MAX8521 are rated at +/-1.5A bidirectional output current.
The MAX8521 can be synchronised to an external clock signal to reduce noise in systems using multiple switching regulators, or can be set to run at 500kHz or 1MHz.
The MAX8520's switching frequency can be programmed up to 1MHz with an external resistor.
The MAX8520ETP/MAX8521ETP are available in a thin 5 x 5mm QFN package.
The MAX8521EBX is also available in a small 3 x 3mm UCSP chip-scale package.
These devices are specified for the extended industrial temperature range (-40 to +85C).
Pricing for the MAX8521ETP starts at $3.75 (1000-up, FOB, USA).
Evaluation kits are available to speed designs.
