Speedy DAC claims dynamic superiority for comms
The MAX5195 is a 14bit 260Msample/s DAC claimed to provide the world's best dynamic performance in spurious-free dynamic range, intermodulation distortion and signal to noise ratio.

New from Maxim Integrated Products, the MAX1162 serial-interface 16bit A/D convertor connects directly to SPI, QSPI and Microwire devices without additional interface logic.
A single IC provides 2dB of conversion gain, 12dB of noise figure, and 26.8dBm of IIP3 performance while replacing two amps, two baluns, an LO switch, and dozens of discrete components.
Through this integration, the overall size of the mixer circuit has been reduced by a factor of 2.5 times, and the discrete part count has been slashed in half.
In addition, the SiGe solution increases production yields while simultaneously providing a more ESD-reliable solution than other GaAs alternatives.
The MAX9982 is ideal for 825 to 915MHz GSM, CDMA2000, TDMA, and iDEN basestation applications where high linearity and low noise figure are required for receiver designs.
As the device provides more than 2dB of conversion gain, the designer can eliminate a complete IF amplifier stage within the receiver lineup.
Superb IIP2 performance of better than 60dBm also eases receiver filtering requirements.
On-chip RF and LO baluns and built-in matching circuits have been provided to accommodate for single-ended 50ohm terminations.
GSM frequency hopping is supported with the integrated LO switch; switching speeds of faster than 250ns are supported with more than 50dB of LO-to-LO isolation.
The onboard LO buffer provides +/-5dB drive variance control, yielding stable G, NF and IIP3 performance over temperature, supply, and input power.
The device has excellent gain spread of +/-0.6dB from nominal at room, and -0.0135dB/C over temperature.
IIP3 spread is similarly impressive at +/-0.5dB over temperature.
The MAX9982 comes in a 5 x 5mm 20-pin QFN package that is fully qualified for direct PC board mount.
Prices start at $7.90 (1000-up, FOB USA).
