Bivar's leading range of flexible light pipes is now available from Optosource, the specialist LED distribution arm of Marl International. Bivar's patented flexible light pipe technology allows an indicator to be placed anywhere on a PCB or within an enclosure, and the output routed to the desired front panel location - eliminating the need for daughtercards and hard-wired front panel LEDs. Manufactured from highly transmissive optical grade materials, and featuring secure press-fit mounting, FLP series light pipes are supplied with a surface mount LED adapter or an integral assembly protecting an ultra-bright through-hole LED.
Available colours span the spectrum, and creative panel designs are catered for with a wide selection of lens shapes and sizes.
Also, the nonconducting UL94V0 polycarbonate lenses protect static-sensitive components from ESD by eliminating the possibility of accidental human contact with the circuitry.
The custom option of specifying the required light pipe length enables vivid light transmission up to 100m away.
After an initial light loss at light capture of approximately 4% and a further 4% for the Fresnel lens, there is negligible light loss over practical pipe lengths.
Minimum bend radius is 20.3mm.
0603, 0805 and 1206 chip sizes with minimum brightness levels of 20mcd are recommended for use with the SMD adapter.
