LynuxWorks has announced availability of its BlueCat Linux for the new Intel Internet Exchange Architecture Software Developers Kit (Intel IXA SDK) 2.0 for the Intel IXP1200 Network Processor

LynuxWorks has announced availability of its BlueCat Linux for the new Intel Internet Exchange Architecture Software Developers Kit (Intel IXA SDK) 2.0 for the Intel IXP1200 Network Processor family. LynuxWorks is the first to announce an Embedded Linux operating system for Intel's IXA SDK, which provides a software and hardware environment for quickly developing networking applications based on the Intel IXP1200 Network Processor.

"Intel is committed to providing its customers with options to meet their particular needs when designing networking equipment based on Intel IXA", said Doug Davis, general manager of Intel's network processor division.

"LynuxWorks is providing equipment designers an option for royalty free Linux along with the support that our commercial customers need.

As an addition to the software available for the IXP1200 Network Processor, BlueCat Linux expands the choices for developers even further".

"LynuxWorks was quick to support the Intel IXA SDK 2.0 strategy because this will satisfy our customers' operating system needs", said Bob Morris, vice president of marketing at LynuxWorks.

Telecomms equipment manufacturers require a Linux distribution that provides a firm foundation for the development of complex embedded networking applications.

BlueCat Linux complements the Intel IXA SDK 2.0 environment by providing a big-endian version of Linux that is optimised for embedded networking applications with features such as version stabilisation, embedding tools and sample code and routines.

The distribution of BlueCat Linux with the Intel IXA SDK 2.0 will provide developers with a royalty-free, open-source Linux distribution that is suited to the needs of manufacturers developing communications equipment based on the Intel IXP1200 network processor.

This big-endian port, coupled with the design of the IXP1200 and its network control task functionality, will allow companies to accelerate development of next-generation Internet products.

The two companies have a strong history of working together.

LynuxWorks is a member of the Intel IXA Developers Forum and the Applied Computing Platform Provider (ACPP) programme.

Results of this co-operation include solutions and technology initiatives targeted to the high availability requirements for communications infrastructure equipment providers.

The BlueCat Linux development and support package will be distributed free of charge with Intel shipments of the Intel IXA SDK 2.0.

LynuxWorks will provide first-level BlueCat support for Intel IXA SDK 2.0 customers.
