The Low Power Radio Association (LPRA) has published the conference programme for this year's Radio Solutions event. This year's conference and exhibition will be held at ETSI in Sophia Antipolis near Nice. The decision to move the event to Europe was taken to reflect the increasing numbers of members of the Association from outside the UK.
In its 12th year, Radio Solutions 2003 will be held on 14th and 15th October 2003 and is a must for anyone involved in short range devices.
The conference programme will focus on issues facing the design, development and applications of low-power radio.
This year's conference keynote address, "Important developments in regulations and standards", will be given by Emmanuel Faussurier of the French Regulator ANFR.
A key conference stream will be "Radio in medicine" - the lead speaker will be Ian Chell of the medical device Agency.
Papers will explore developments and the increasing use of radio in patient monitoring; body area networks (sensors and data collection) and the advent of automatic nursing.
Other topics include pacemakers, advances in "on body wireless" devices, and hospital data collection networks.
This is an area moving up the government agenda and is already a topic within the Working Group FM as moves are made towards unifying and harmonising frequencies for medical applications.
Other conference streams include: "Automotive applications" - papers include short-range radar at 24GHz for anticollision and pedestrian safety, cruise control applications and the use of radio in automotive sensor monitoring such as tyre pressure; "Testing, measurement and interoperability" - with addresses on measurement uncertainty by Alan Dearlove of ETSI and Jean-Pierre Lacotte on Hiperlan and interoperability; and "Short range devices - what's in store?" - including papers on social alarms, and the use of short range radio for social and safety applications.
