Since the recent launch of Livingston's new website and web-based catalogue in July 2003, the company has seen a dramatic increase in its level of business activity via e-commerce. A major factor in Livingston's e-commerce success is the popular and accessible online catalogue. The catalogue provides a detailed, up-to-the minute inventory of products that can be rented or bought from Livingston, and its sophisticated search tool enables users to quickly and easily locate test equipment by product or related products, manufacturer or by technology.
The system even recommends similar products in the event that the requested product is not available, and can advise customers on the right test equipment for their application.
Furthermore, the online catalogue is the only inventory listing that allows users to compare the price of renting against buying equipment.
"Since the introduction of the new website and catalogue we have received in excess of GBP 750,000 of quotes via the web and 20% of these quotes have already been converted into orders", says Andy Walker, Livingston's Marketing Operations Manager.
"The fact that users can add the equipment to their shopping basket and then request a quote online makes doing business with Livingston very quick and painless", adds Walker.
As soon as new products are introduced, they are posted online along with their photos and manufacturer product and data sheets.
The catalogue also includes full inventory for Livingston's Computer Products Division, including workstations, servers, PDAs and more.
Livingston plans for the online service to become specific to each user by early 2004 when user preference options, such as approved vendor listings, will be automatically presented when they login.
