Storage controllers boast 2Gbyte/s bandwidth
LSI Logic has begun shipping the industry's first PCI Express-to-SAS controller ICs
Providing unprecedented bandwidth and scalability for server direct attached storage (DAS) and external storage systems environments, the SAS ICs meet the increasing bandwidth and flexibility demands of next-generation processor and memory subsystems. The new four- and eight-port controller ICs use the Fusion-MPT (message passing technology) architecture to speed OEM design and deployment processes to provide a time to market advantage that makes them ideal for use in blade servers.

Both the four-port LSISAS1064E and eight-port LSISAS1068E support eight PCI Express lanes at 2.5Gbit/s, for an aggregate bandwidth of up to 2Gbyte/s.
The controller ICs can be configured as x8, x4, and x1 PCI Express devices, with the ability to autonegotiate among those link widths.
In addition, the family supports Integrated RAID functionality for systems requiring redundancy and high availability, but not needing a full featured RAID implementation.
