LSI Logic has released four PCI-X Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) host bus adapters (HBAs), providing the industry with the most complete SAS HBA family available

The newly expanded family now includes the market's first SAS HBAs with hardware-based RAID functionality, and is the only family to address both internal and external storage environments. Specific models now feature Integrated RAID functionality, supporting RAID levels 0, 1 and 1E (enhanced mirroring) for increased system reliability.

Integrated RAID provides a significant advantage over software-based RAID, supporting OS independence and not requiring special drivers.

When combined with the high-reliability attributes of SAS, the new HBAs offer a higher performance, higher availability solution for storage environments where a full RAID implementation is not required or is cost prohibitive.

'As the market leader in SAS, LSI continues to leverage our significant expertise to deliver first-to-market solutions such as our highly robust SAS HBAs', said Bruce Grieshaber, Product Manager, SAS HBAs, LSI Logic.

'As the market transitions to new technologies, LSI will continue to deliver next-generation solutions ahead of the competition'.

The expanded LSI HBA family now features the industry's only four-port SAS HBA, the LSISAS3041X-R.

In addition, LSI is also shipping three new eight-port cards (LSISAS3442X-R, LSISAS3080X, LSISAS3800X) featuring a selection of internal and external storage connections.

Each of these new HBAs represents an industry first and are supported by MyStorage management software.

Additionally, all family members utilise the LSI Fusion-MPT (message passing technology) architecture to speed OEM development time and increase reliability.
