Nvidia Corp, the worldwide leader in visual processing solutions, has selected the LSI Logic DVxplore MPEG-2 codec for its recently announced MCE TV tuner PCI cards

Using the fourth-generation DVxplore codec, Nvidia has been able to design a low-cost, low-profile TV tuner solution that delivers a high-quality TV viewing experience for its PC manufacturer and system builder partners introducing new desktop PCs based on Microsoft Windows XP Media Centre Edition 2004.

"LSI Logic's compression technology coupled with Nvidia's DVD-quality decompression capability provides PC manufacturers with a great TV tuner solution", said Joe Belfiore, General Manager of the eHome division at Microsoft Corp.

"Windows XP Media Centre Edition 2004-based PCs that include these innovative new TV tuner solutions offer consumers enhanced digital media capabilities such as longer recording times without a sacrifice in video quality".

The Nvidia MCE TV tuner card was designed specifically with small-form-factor PCs in mind.

Leveraging the DVxplore MPEG-2 codec, the Nvidia MCE TV Tuner card enables the recording, playback and time shifting of broadcast TV at high-resolutions.

In addition, the DVxplore codec provides vertical blanking interval (VBI) extraction for teletext and closed captioning to enrich the user experience.

The LSI Logic patented PerfectView video encoding technology provides superior encoding for all bit rates, the best video quality at comparable bit rates, and the most efficient use of hard disk drive (HDD) space.

"Nvidia has taken a holistic approach by assembling a comprehensive product suite of the best technology solutions for powering the world's best Media Centre PCs.

For our TV tuner solution, LSI Logic was able to provide us with a high-quality codec solution designed to deliver a compelling TV viewing experience, enabling our partners to evolve the PC into a true entertainment device", said Ujesh Desai, Director of Multimedia Products at Nvidia.

The LSI Logic DVxplore is a market-proven codec solution based on the DVx architecture that has enabled over 60% of the North American digital video broadcasted content.

Bringing this technology into the home, the multi-format codec offers advanced features such as real-time DV to MPEG transcoding.

"We are delighted to be part of Nvidia's comprehensive offering for Media Centre PCs", said Bob Saffari, Senior Director of Marketing and Applications Engineering for Advanced Video Products for LSI Logic's Broadband Entertainment Division.

"LSI Logic's advanced compression technology that creates superior video quality for PVR and TV recording applications, combined with Nvidia's excellent playback and graphics capabilities, is bringing entertainment PCs to the next level".
